From1996untilthepresentIhavebeendevelopingaseriesofpaintingsthatmostpeopleseeasbeingnarrativeincharacter.Reallythoughthereisnostoryinthisworkexcepttheeccentrichistoryoftheprocessofpaintingthem.Iusuallystartfromnothing.Justaseriesofrandomgesturesandthroughre-contextualizingthesegestureslayeruponlayerarepresentationalimageisborn.Theresultisaproductofmyknowledgeofthehistoryofpaintingexperiencepsychologyandfantasy.Iwanteachpaintingtoexistonaspectrumfromabstractiontovividrepresentationalwaysdisintegratingintopaintuponcloseexamination.UntilrecentlyIhaveusedthestilllifegenretosubverttheconnectionofpaintingtotherealworld.LatelyIhavebeenalsousingthetechnologyoftheIpadtofurtherinvestigateideasaboutrepresentingeverydaylife.Themajorideasthatanimatethisworkconcernthequotidianmomentsofdailylifeasseenthroughthedistortingmediumofpainting.Crystalformsreectivesurfacessculpturesandiceallserveasmetaphorsforthewaypaintingoffersavisionofdailylifethatisdistortedbysubconsciousdesiresandurges.Alloftheseapproacheshavemademecuriousaboutthewayartistsconstructanideaoftheirartisticself.IndInolongerneedtosearchforthreadsofcontinuitybetweenmypaintings.Continuityalwaysoccursthoughnotinanobviouslylogicalwaybutduetotheconsciousnessthatpaintedthem.Allthepaintingsdohaveincommonasenseofconstructedspace.Iusethisspacetoenablecontradictoryideasofrepresentationtoexistonthesamecanvas.Ihavefoundthattheselfisnotadiscreteentitybutanever-expandingseriesofeventsper-formedbyasinglepersoninaculturalcontextwhichonlybecomesfullyintegrateduponthedeathoftheartist.Thisistheonlynarrativethatholdsmyinterest.Eachpaintingisanewtestoftheideaoffreedom.DennisKardon2013
